Minneapolis Street Sighting: Lincoln Continental

When one thinks of the Lincoln brand, images of luxury, uppercrust American style flood minds; images of big, classy, chrome-laden boats, or if you grew up in the 1990s, images of front-wheel-drive, leather-lined Ford Taurus-based cars. So, where does that leave this Continental you ask?
It depends. Truthfully, there isn't much chrome to behold, the heavy-looking wire hubcaps are clearly not doing this car justice, and the styling..well.. just look at it. Wait, no. Don't. Your eyes will thank you. Meant initially to compete with Cadillac's bustleback Seville, this sedan was (as far as I'm concerned) one of Lincoln's biggest flops. While Cadillac's middle sedan was a FWD-based car for its 1980s generation, this particular Conti stayed true to it's "old-world" heritage by remaining rear-wheel-drive. Even then, it still failed-- and looking it at, it doesn't take a gearhead to figure out why. The idea of a "sedan hatchback" is stupid now, and one wonders what people thought nearly 30 years ago.
That being said, this example is a pretty straight one, exhibiting no rust, and no crash damage; I'd say it is a well-preserved car, but why go through the hassle of preserving it? I guess the same can be said of today's Lincoln MKZ, which I suppose is the equivalent of this thing.
I would not, under any circumstances, drive this turd. Okay, maybe, if you cut off two doors and make it look better-- oh, that's called the Mark VII. Yes, I would drive that.
