Minneapolis Street Sighting: Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

I do realize I've featured a couple of these cars; to be honest, I do sort of like them. As a child growing up in the 1990s, these things were everywhere; it seems like at least six or seven kids in my grade had parents who owned one--or its successor. As time went on, these '79-'85 Eldorados slowly started to disappear from our roads. Only recently, have I noticed the comeback of these things.
The Eldorado started life as a gigantic luxury boat that was more suited to sitting in front of a mansion than being out on the town. As the model progressed, the car got smaller, and eventually was turned into a front-wheel-drive pseudo-luxury coupe, as seen here. Whereas the successor resembled a tarted up Pontiac Grand Am, this generation still looked Cadillac, right down to the wire hubcaps and copious amounts of chrome up front.
The end of the 1970s was a rather dire time for the entire US auto industry; cars were switching to front-wheel-drive, V8s were struggling to make decent horsepower figures, but none of that matters to me. It seems like the Malaise era produced some nicely styled cars--cars that you'd never guess are approaching-- or have approached-- thirty years old. Whether that's a testament to the slim advances in car design, or whether I'm just used to seeing these cars are "relatively new" is hard to say, but I've not met many a Malaise car I didn't like-- and this Eldorado is no exception. Because of the 4100 badge on the front fenders, I am going to guess this is a 1982 model. I'm surprised that boat anchor of an engine hasn't given up yet.
Out of all the Eldorados I've seen roaming the Minneapolis area, this white beast sure is the cleanest one I've encountered. I'm not sure whether this one has been "restored" if it's a well-looked-after one owner car, but damn. Not a speck of rust, no dents, and the paint --as well as the chrome-- is still in as-new condition. I know these aren't the most special of Cadillacs out there, but wow. I never expected to see one this clean! Props to the owner for babying a not-very-often-babied car.
