Minneapolis Street Sighting: Austin Healey 3000 Mk III

Yeah, I might as well call this "Quality Coach Spottings"; this is yet another example of a fine British motorcar I captured over on 38th and Nicollet. This time, though, it was one of few cars sitting out front.
Finished in a beautiful gold hue with black leather, this little roadster oozes by-gone class. In a time when roadsters were roadsters, and most sports cars were minimalist items versus status symbol, luxury laden vehicles that cost an arm and leg, this Austin Healey didn't look out of place; in fact, it looked right at home in Metro London, Greenich, Paris, and even in the bigger cities of America. An Austin Healey was a different kind of status symbol; it showed the motoring public that you knew about cars, but wanted something different than a "run-of-the-mill" Triumph or MG. However, despite its appearance, this little Brit was actually cheaper to run and own than a contemporary Ford or Vauxhall.
So why did I shoot this one when I've shot others before? To be honest, I really like the color on this one; it's not cliche by any means, and it's not boring either. I don't think it's possible to make a Healey boring-- unless you do every redneck's wet dream a 350 and drag tires. Which would render such a fine sports car useless for anything but going straight. And going straight is not what these sportsers are about; they're about carving curves, scenic drives, and two-lane roads. If you want a classic sports car that goes in a straight line, get a Corvette.
