Minneapolis Street Sightings: Range Rover County

I figured I don't feature too many SUVs, so this is Range Rover would be a good candidate. Unlike the newer Rovers, the original version is MUCH more suited too off-road use. No 20" wheels, no nav system, and no gimmicky electrics to go sour--this was the SUV to have if you were into upscale off-roading, or simply wanted a tried and true luxury vehicle but didn't want a run-of-the-mill Mercedes.

This example features several custom add-on, but they do not detract from the vehicle's prestige image. Infact, they enhance it; the rather tame 15" wheels have been replaced with beefier and more off-road-ready steelies, and a "Safari" brush guard has been added to give the truck a more rugged appearance. As if a Range Rover needed to be more rugged. What they could have, and should have done is add a roof rack and exterior spare tire as well. Not only would the "rough and ready" appearance be complete, the Rover would look better, too.

With Range Rovers off this vintage falling into the category of not-yet-classic, and not-quite-an-average vehicle, prices are in the steady $3500 to $6500 range for a good 1992 to 1995. So, if you want a good, rugged, do-anything rig, an older Rangie is the way to go.
