Minneapolis Street Sightings: Ford Ranchero

This is an interesting find; I often see battered and bruised El Caminos, but seeing a Ranchero is exciting for me. This example was a pretty nice one for up here--no, wait, a pretty nice one period. The bronze paint was in good shape, especially for its age, and the chrome was top notch to boot. Better yet, this particular one had NO signs of rust. What's this--a Minnesota car with no rust? Impossible! The dog dish hubcaps on this Rancho are a neat touch, and they're certainly better than the generic Cragars most seem to have on them by now.

Since Rancheros seem to be largely forgotten, they can be had for pretty cheap; a decent driver 1964-1966 Mustang is about $12,500, a Falcon is about $10,000, and a Ranchero is about $13,500. The 1970s version, as seen above, are about 1/3 of that. If I wanted, I could probably snap up this one for about $4500 or so, maybe even less! That's a bargain, and what's more, you can hop up the engines in these (302, 351) with many a part; you can feasibly have a 300-350 HP vehicle for under $6000. To top it off, you wouldn't have a cookie-cutter Camaro or Firebird either. How's that for a good performance bargain?
