Lawrence Street Sighting: Ford Galaxie 500XL
By now, you've discovered that Lawrence, Kansas is home to quite a few classic cars if one knows where to look; this Galaxie is no different than its slightly newer brethren. Despite riding on aftermarket wheels, this particular car looked to be easily restorable, if not a daily driver. While the faded paint does it no favors aesthetically, it's in a lot better condition than the same car would likely be up here. On this car, unlike the one I spotted up here, the chrome is pretty much spotless. Pitted, sure, but what do you expect? It's nearly fifty years old.
Underhood, this beast sports the much-loved 390 V8, sure to provide enough grunt to propel this classic American sedan to (somewhat) illegal speeds. Being a familiar Ford engine, I'm certain there is a huge slew of aftermarket bits and bobs should its owner want more power. To add to the "cruiser" feel that dominates this car, aftermarket wheels replace the steelies. Three of the four look nice. I'm not too keen on that godawful 1990s era Eagle Alloy/Colorado Custom lone rear wheel. While I'm not all THAT picky regarding wheel and tire choice, that lone wheel ruins the look of this Galaxie 500 in my opinion. I'd find another matching wheel, and polish them. For winter, I'd convert to stock-spec steelies and have them painted to match the car.
