Minneapolis Street Sighting: Datsun 280ZX Turbo

I love Z-cars--particularly the non 2+2 cars. While I much prefer either '84-'85 300ZX or the much earlier 240Zs, this circa 1980 example is a semi-decent one. The paint is pretty nice for what it is. No real dents, scratches, or accident damage of any kind. Like most Japanese cars of the era, this example suffers from extreme rust. It seems as if every single possible place, a new rust hole sprouts. Kind of sad, really, because other than the rust, the bodywork is in impeccable shape. Even the factory emblems appear to be almost new. I cannot fathom why it's rusting so badly. Did the owner leave this in a river for a few days? Damn.
From what I saw of the interior, it too looks extremely nice for its age. No pitting on the trim, the dash isn't curled up, and most shockingly, the center console lid is intact and one piece. Heck, even the steering wheel doesn't look worn too much. Which leads me to one very sad conclusion; its owner doesn't take very good care of it. Shame, really, because these cars have a good following, as well as a typical "this must be cool because its retro" following. Not cool. Please, hipsters, stick to Scion xBs.
