Minneapolis Street Sighting: Pontiac Fiero GT

Usually, when one thinks of mid-engine performance cars, Porsche, and Ferrari are brought to mind. In the 1980s, that wasn't always the case. In 1984, the Fiero was born as 'America's Mid-Engine Sportscar'. Sadly, though, most versions were far from sporty. While the crappy base model was more economy car/slow deathtrap than sporty, those notions would change in 1985.
With the arrival of Toyota's MR2 (a much better driving car, so they say), Pontiac couldn't be left the cold. The GT model was competition for the MR2, and according to Car and Driver, it was a decent car, posting nearly identical slalom numbers to the MR2. In all, though, the GT was, and still is, more common than the base model.
Sadly enough, most Fieros have been turned into kit cars by now, and most people who still have a stock one either suggest it'd make a good kit car, or they want to drop a 350 in it. I say to hell with that, and leave it stock. It has a cult following, and there need to be a few examples left unmolested.
This particular example lives nary a block from me, and is in immaculate condition. I don't think it gets driven much, because it still looks, for the most part, showroom fresh. And that's the way I like it.
