Minneapolis Street Sighting: Oldsmobile Toronado

Now, I know what you're thinking; why post a boring GM car, right? Well, yes, actually the Oldsmobile Toronado is a pretty boring car, by most people's standards, but I like them. I like 1960s versions obviously, and the 1970s one aren't bad either. However, the 1980s version sorta.. well, it was still a luxury car, but it didn't have groundbreaking styling compared to the rest of the Oldsmobile line. It, did, however fill a nice space in GM's luxury coupe lineup directly above (or below depending on options and trim) stablemate Buick's formal Riviera coupe.
For some reason, I've always liked the Oldsmobile Toronado, and these early to mid 1980s examples are starting to grow on me. Styling is almost Cadillac-esque, which is certainly no mistake. The other GM car in this luxury-coupe trio was the Cadillac El Dorado. Seen sort of as the middle ground between Buick and Cadillac, the Toronado had several options to choose, some of the notable being the oh-so-80s digital gauges. Fear not, these clusters can be swapped out with non-digital units once they lose their digitalized fun.
This example presented itself well, considering it doesn't have collector plates on it, nor does it appear to be a pampered vehicle by any means. Even though the chances of the owner being a car person are slim-to-none, I still would like to congratulate them on keeping on of GM's best 1980s efforts on the road. It makes me happy knowing someone cares enough about their soon-to-be-antique to not let it rot in a snowpile. Or even worse, send it to U-Pull-it.
